What is schema markup, and why bother?

Schema markup (also called structured data) is a small block of code you add to a page that describes what the page is about in a vocabulary search engines agree on — schema.org. Google reads it to build rich results like FAQ drop-downs and business panels, and AI assistants lean on it to describe your business accurately. Google recommends the JSON-LD format, which is exactly what this tool produces.

It won’t magically lift your rankings, but for a local business it’s one of the highest-value, lowest-effort technical wins — it makes you eligible for richer listings and helps every engine understand and trust your pages.

How to add it

  1. Pick a type above and fill in the form — the JSON-LD updates live.
  2. Copy the whole <script type="application/ld+json"> block.
  3. Paste it into the <head> of the page it describes.
  4. Validate with the Google Rich Results Test or the Schema.org validator.

One rule from Google’s guidelines: only mark up content that’s genuinely visible to users on the page. Don’t invent reviews or hide FAQ that isn’t shown.
