Meta Muse for Small Business: what to let AI run in your ads, and what to keep

Two Persepolis stone reliefs of Achaemenid guards in profile, one lit in warm gold and one in teal light from floating holographic ad cards, for a guide to Meta Muse for small business

Meta’s new agent can read your ad account and write the campaign. It can’t tell you whether the offer is any good.

On September 29, Meta added a small-business layer to Muse, the AI agent it launched earlier that month. Owners can connect their Instagram professional account, Facebook Page and Meta ad account, then ask Muse to explain what is working and draft the next campaign.1 Muse reached Canada on September 18, so this isn’t a US-only story for once.3

I like the idea. Most of the small businesses we work with don’t lack ideas, they lack the hour on a Tuesday night to turn a good month into a draft campaign. Meta framed the launch the same way: owners are short on hours, not ideas.2 But an agent that can see your ad account is also an agent that can make an expensive mistake look tidy. So the useful question isn’t “should I use Muse?” It’s “which jobs do I hand it, and which do I keep?”

The short answer

Let Muse do the reading and the first draft: performance summaries, ad copy variations, a campaign outline from last month’s best post, a list of messages you haven’t answered. Keep the decisions that cost money or carry your name: the offer, the budget, the audience, every claim in the ad and the final approval. Before you connect it, put a hard spending limit on the ad account so a bad approval can’t run forever.

What Muse for Small Business actually is

Muse started as a personal agent. Meta launched it on September 8 as an assistant that completes tasks rather than only answering questions, working in its own browser and asking for approval before sensitive actions such as sending an email or buying something.4 The small-business version adds skills and connectors aimed at owners:

  • Meta accounts: Instagram professional account insights, Facebook Pages and Meta ad accounts.1
  • What it does with them: analyses sales and marketing performance, drafts campaigns and flags messages that may need a reply.1
  • Other tools: connectors for apps such as Canva, Shopify, QuickBooks, Klaviyo, Slack and Zoom.6
  • Approval: Meta says Muse won’t post content, send messages or buy anything without the owner’s approval.1
  • Price: free for most uses, with paid plans for heavier users.2

Meta is pushing hard here. It is pairing Muse for Small Business with a wider enterprise push to sell its AI to businesses, so expect the feature list to keep moving.5

What to let Muse do, and what to keep

Think of Muse as a fast junior who has read every number in your account and none of your customer conversations. That’s the line.

JobLet Muse do it?Why
Summarise last month’s ads and postsYesIt reads the numbers faster than you can, and a summary can’t spend money.
Draft ad copy and headline variationsYes, then editGood first drafts; your voice and your facts still need a pass.
Outline a campaign from your best postYesSpotting what already worked is exactly what an agent with your data is good at.
Flag unanswered DMs and commentsYesA missed message is a missed booking. Reply yourself.
Pick the offer or discountNoThe data shows which ad got clicks, not what a discount does to your margin next quarter.
Set or raise the budgetNoBudget is a business decision. Decide it, then cap it in Ads Manager.
Choose who sees the adDraft onlyYou know your service area and your worst-fit customers. It doesn’t.
Every claim in the adNoYou are responsible for what the ad says, whoever wrote it.

That last row matters more than it looks. Ad Standards has said Canada has no dedicated framework for AI-generated advertising, so the usual rules still apply.8 The Competition Act’s rules on false or misleading claims don’t care whether a person or an agent typed the headline.9 If Muse writes “Vancouver’s top-rated” and you can’t back it up, that’s your claim now.

Five guardrails before you connect your ad account

1. Put a spending limit on the account first

Meta lets you set an account spending limit in billing settings. When the account reaches it, ads stop delivering until you raise or reset it.7 Set one before Muse touches anything. A campaign budget can be edited in an approval you skim at 11 pm; an account cap is a second lock.

2. Connect only what the task needs

Every connector widens what the agent can see. If you want an ad summary, it doesn’t need your accounting software. Start with Instagram insights and the ad account, and add tools only when a task calls for them.

3. Read the approval, not the button

Muse asks before it acts, which is the right design.1 The weak point is the person approving. Before you say yes, check four things on screen: the audience, the daily budget, the end date and the exact words of the ad.

4. Keep your own tracking

An agent that reads your account will report the numbers your account sees. If calls and booking-form leads aren’t tracked back to the ad, Muse will happily optimise for clicks. Fix tracking first; our guide to measuring marketing ROI covers what to count.

5. Review weekly, in one place

Pick one time each week to read what Muse drafted, what you approved and what it spent. Ten minutes on a Monday beats finding out from your credit card statement.

How it looks in three businesses

A realtor in the Tri-Cities

Muse can pull last month’s best Reel, say the open house video, and draft a campaign around the next listing. You still pick the listing, write the claims about it, check your brokerage’s advertising rules and set the area you actually serve. Our guide to Facebook ads for real estate agents covers what a good listing campaign needs.

A hair or nail salon

Ask Muse which posts brought bookings and which only brought likes, then let it draft three versions of an ad for your quietest weekday. Keep the offer decision. A salon that teaches clients to wait for a deal gets fewer full-price bookings, which is the whole argument of our Black Friday discount trap piece. More ideas are in our salon marketing ideas.

An HVAC company in heating season

Muse can draft a furnace tune-up campaign and summarise which ads drove calls last winter. You set the service area, the daily cap and what happens when an emergency call comes in at 9 pm. Our HVAC marketing guide has the heating-season plan.

Is it worth turning on?

For most owners who already run Meta ads, yes, for the reading and drafting jobs. It’s free to start and it saves the hour that usually stops a good idea from becoming a campaign.2

Wait if your tracking is broken, if nobody will read the approvals properly, or if you’re hoping it will tell you what to sell. It won’t. An agent can only work with what is already in your accounts and your head.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Meta Muse for Small Business?

It is a set of skills and connectors added to Muse, Meta's AI agent, on September 29, 2026. Owners can connect their Instagram professional account, Facebook Page and Meta ad account so Muse can summarise performance, draft campaigns and flag messages that need a reply.

Is Meta Muse available in Canada?

Yes. Muse reached Canada on September 18, 2026, on iOS and the web, with Android following later. Muse for Small Business launched on September 29 for Muse users in the US and Canada.

How much does Meta Muse cost?

Meta says Muse is free for most uses, with paid plans for people who use it heavily. Check Meta's current pricing before you rely on it, because the product is new and still changing.

Can Muse spend money on ads without my approval?

Meta says Muse won't post, send messages or buy anything without the owner's approval. Approvals are only as good as the person reading them, so set an account spending limit in Meta Ads Manager as a second lock before you connect your ad account.

Can Muse replace a marketer or an agency?

It can replace some of the busywork: summaries, first drafts and reminders. It can't decide your offer, your budget or which customers you want, and it can't check whether a claim in an ad is true. Those still need a person who knows the business.
